Paladar is a upscale market in the Belgrano neighborhood of Buenos Aires specializing in meats and antipasto. Antipasto is your cured meats and cheeses that go well as a starter for a meal to wet your appetite. I make specific note of Paladar because I consider this place as the Lexus of meat markets because the place is not cheap by normal market standards but the quality is unmatched.

Now, when you step into the market you’ll first notice the security guard and then the inpeccable cleanliness of the place. The meat and cheese case is like that of which you’ll see in your local supermarket deli section but these meats are exceptional. Now, you could go for one of their pre-determined package deals that feeds 4 but you’re looking at around 90 pesos. Yup, that’s right, 90 pesos for antipasto! Granted it’s a party platter of sorts but for 2 people, I’m not looking at spending that much.

Rather, my advice is to just look through the refrigerator case and pick out those meats and cheeses that look good to you. Even if you have no idea what it is, if it looks fat and tasty then it probably is. Tell the meat man how many slices of each you want and make you purchases that way. For 2 people I say we probably had 4 different meats and 2 different cheese, around 6-8 slices of each along with bread and it cost a total of 15 pesos. This served as good late afternoon snack to hold us over before dinner and didn’t ruin me for the rest of the night.
