Grido Helado - Córdoba Food Review

If you’ve watched any special on Buenos Aires on Travel Channel or Food Network, more or less there’ll be a reference to the popularity of ice cream. Now I could probably write about any ice cream shop in Buenos Aires but I wanted to focus on Grido, the ice cream shop I couldn’t stop seeing while visiting the city Córdoba.

Grido Helado shops are to Córdoba what Starbucks is to Downtown Seattle. I swear, I could could walk more than 3 blocks within the central part of Córdoba without seeing one. The Grido pictured above is what I probably deem as the largest Grido store in the city. Yes, must sound pretty sad that I paid attention to all of them. But really, when visiting Córdoba you can’t miss a Grido and if you do, just wait a couple more blocks and you’ll see another one. Now is Grido the greatest ice cream in the world, let alone Argentina? Probably not but when walking around in 90 degree weather, stopping into an air conditioned ice cream shop is a nice treat… and again, in Córdoba you’re choice is Grido. As for flavors, well, they have the 31 flavors covered but everything obviously revolves around dulce de leche and chocolate. You can get a double chocolate chocolate or the same variation but with dulce de leche is you want. For me, I stick with the simple mint chocolate chip.

Now ordering ice cream here is a bit different from the US too. Where as we’re used to ordering then paying it’s the other way around. I guess it’s so they make sure they get their money before you get the ice cream enjoyment. Anyways, know what you want, whether it be a small, medium, or large (not one scoop or a double scoop) and pay first. You then hand over your receipt to the designated scooper employee and then get your ice cream. Even if the place is dead the process still goes as follows and that receipt is necessary. It seemed a bit anal to me but I guess that’s their operational efficiency.

Anyways, when in Córdoba, enjoy Grido Helado. There are other choices but if you look too hard you’re going to end up only seeing Grido anyways so might as well just go there from the start. I’d be surprised to find out that there is a Grido that is bigger than the one that I photographed above. Someone prove me wrong!
