Don Alonso is a parrilla located in Mina Clavero within the Córdoba province. As apart of the day tour I took outside of Córdoba we stopped here in Mina Clavero for lunch. Mina Clavero is fueled by their river that people treat as a beach-like tourist destination, in addition to the casino there too. I think the reason we ended up eating at Don Alonso was because our tour guide was friends with some of the staff so what better way to get bring in a little business.

Well, the parrilla selection was typical and the restaurant was by no means fine dining as evident by the flies that constantly bothered us along with other patrons. However, what stands out most about this place was the empanadas. Now for 1 pesos an empanada you can’t go wrong, or can you? I’ve never had a sweet empanada and don’t know if it really exists. It tasted as if the cook had used sugar rather than salt in the recipe. Maybe this is a new trend or something exclusive to the Mina Clavero area? Either way it wasn’t absolutely terrible but not as appetizing as I’d expected. But then again, for 1 peso you can’t expect too much right?

Okay, I think I focused more than enough time on the empanada but that’s the one thing that stood out from this meal. The asado de tira was decent as with all other places and though we were in what ideally is a tourist town, the prices on the menu were typical. This main drag of Mina Clavero doesn’t have much to offer and there’s other restaurants to try also. If you are looking for a parrilla then I can’t see why not to go to Don Alonso, just be warned about the sugary empanadas; that just doesn’t sound right to begin with.
