Christophe is a fine-dining restaurant located in Palermo Hollywood. After eating at many parrillas I figured that I should take advantage of the types of cuisine that Buenos Aires has to offer; Palermo Hollywood being the perfect area to try different unique restaurants. However, I think I would’ve been happier going to just any parrilla instead of this restaurant. Maybe my taste is not sophisticated enough for Christophe’s fusion of flavors but for what you pay and what you get I didn’t think the restaurant was exceptional in my Buenos Aires restaurant experiences.
I will say that the service was pretty good and fairly attentive. The waiter was very informative and courteous. As for the food, I had Christophe’s interpretation of “korean ribs”. I’m not sure what the Korean inspiration was for the way he prepared the ribs but there was nothing Korean about it. Basically it was a short rib that seemed to have been marinated in something then braised over some type of reduction. I’m not even sure if I’m using the correct terminology but nonetheless it was nothing near the kal-bi you think about when going to a Korean bbq. The Korean ribs were served with some type of pan-fried sliced potatoes and some other vegetables that I really can’t recall what they were. All I can say that was memorable about this meal was my disappointment. This was one of the examples where the portions were fairly poor. I guess it’s one of those things where less is more because of the flavors and all that junk. Either way, these Korean ribs were not worth the 42 pesos.
Bottomline, I thought it’d be nice to try something else aside from parrillas but this place kind of steered me away from that train of thought. No doubt I won’t be trying this place again. I’d like to try more non-parrilla restaurants but probably would need to take a closer look at the menu in the future. Christophe was probably my least favorite meal during my last trip to Buenos Aires.
