El Fogón is a small parrilla located near Rio Alba in Palermo near the botánico area. I found this place while walking around on a Sunday afternoon and decided to grab a quick lunch. I really liked this place because it was mostly local people and I’ll admit I was given a quick stare by the old couple on the next table because I guess they don’t get many tourist looking guys around here.
So finally I ordered pollo at a Buenos Aires parrilla. It’s tough to order pollo because the steaks are just so good but when the pollo is cooked on the grill it is truly tasty. Not dry and very tender with that grill taste. But in addition to the quarter pollo I had an empanada, chorizo, and salad. With a soda, I spent 27 pesos. Not bad for a lunch. Actually, the salad (7 pesos) cost just about as much as the pollo (9 pesos). In addition, I really liked the chimichurri. I’m big into garlic and theirs was pretty fresh with a fair amount of nice chunks of garlic. A very local place with a simple grill but tasty quality of food.
El Fogón is a parrilla that I would go to again. I liked the local atmosphere and the prices are very reasonable with quality. I also felt the service was good being a small place with high turnover on a Sunday afternoon. After enjoying the pollo here I think it’s only necessary that I try the bife too. As with Rio Alba, this parrilla is not really in the part of Palermo that I frequent but if the opportunity arises I would make the effort to go here.
